Fee and Commission Information

Voyager Financial does not charge fees, expenses or any other amount for the financial advice we provide to our clients.

Conflicts of Interest and Incentives

Voyager Financial has relationships with New Zealand-based fund managers, insurers and asset lenders. These relationships allow us to access products, pricing, and support to deliver advice and services.

Commissions

If you take out an insurance policy or have your KiwiSaver or other funds advised by us, Voyager Financial will receive a commission from the relevant product provider. These will be paid according to the following:

  • KiwiSaver providers:

    • Between $0 and $300 upfront commission

    • Ongoing commission equivalent to 0.01-1.00% of the balance of funds managed by the provider, but usually between 0.20%-0.50% depending on the provider and savings amount

  • Insurance providers:

    • Between 45% and 230% of the first year’s premium (depending on the insurer and product);

    • Ongoing commission of 5%–10% of the premium for each year the policy remains in force.

These commissions are paid by the product provider and are not an additional cost to you.

Adviser remuneration

Voyager Financial advisers are paid via commission or a fixed salary. Commission-based advisers are not incentivised to recommend one provider over another, all recommendations are made based on your individual needs. 

Although different providers offer varying levels of remuneration, our recommendations are based solely on your needs, not commissions. We follow a strict process to ensure the fund selected is best suited to your risk profile and investment goals. 

We will disclose the exact remuneration we receive when we provide our recommendation to you.

Non-monetary incentives

From time to time, product providers may offer non-monetary benefits such as event tickets, gifts, or hospitality.

How we manage any conflicts of interest or other incentives:

To ensure that our financial advisers prioritise our client’s interest above their own, we:

  • Follow a six-step advice process that bases our recommendations on your goals and circumstances.

  • Only engage with clients where we believe there is a clear and material benefit to the client

  • Have documented conflicts of interest policies and procedures

  • Our advisers follow a structured advice process focused on each client’s goals and circumstances

  • All our financial advisers undergo regular training on managing conflicts of interest.

Our duties to you

Voyager Financial, and anyone who gives financial advice on our behalf, has duties under the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013.

We are required to:

  • Give priority to your interests by taking all reasonable steps to ensure our advice is not materially influenced by our own interests

  • Exercise care, diligence, and skill in providing financial advice

  • Meet the standards of competence, knowledge, and skill set by the Code of Professional Conduct for Financial Advice Services

  • Meet the standards of ethical behaviour, conduct, and client care set by the Code of Professional Conduct for Financial Advice Services

Privacy information

Voyager Financial complies with the Privacy Act 2020.

To provide you with KiwiSaver advice, we need certain personal and financial information. Any information collected for this service and used in associated advice reports is treated as confidential and stored securely.

Our complaint handling process

Voyager Financial is committed to addressing any complaint promptly and appropriately.

When we receive a complaint, we follow this process:

• We will consider your complaint and let you know how we plan to resolve it. We may contact you for more information.

• We aim to resolve complaints within 15 working days. If more time is needed, we will update you within that timeframe.

• We will contact you by phone or email to confirm whether we can resolve your complaint and how we propose to do so.

• If we can’t resolve your complaint, or you aren’t satisfied with our proposed resolution, you can contact the Financial Services Complaints Limited.

Dispute resolution process

If our internal complaints process does not resolve your complaint to your satisfaction, you can contact our external independent dispute resolution scheme. This service is free and can help investigate or resolve your complaint.
